Solar power plants for commercial use were first developed back in the 1980s. Benefits of harnessing the limitless energy of sun and converting it into electricity cannot be undermined in the light of the growing pressure on earth’s natural resources. Non-renewable resources such as coal, natural gas and petroleum are fast depleting as they are used in the manufacturing of electricity.

Shift towards solar power is evident from increased investment by various countries into solar technology. The SEGS 354 Mega Watt Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) installation in Mojave Desert California is the largest solar power installation in the world. Golmud Solar Park in China is a 200 MW solar power plant making it the world’s largest photovoltaic plant.

Protecting the environment and preserving its natural resources for generations to come should be a goal not left to organizations or governments alone. It is the primary duty of every citizen of Earth to contribute and make a difference. As a homeowner, you can consider products like solar lanterns and driveway lights to brighten up your property instead of lights running on electricity.

Adequate outdoor lighting creates a lively outdoor ambiance wherein you can spend quality time with your loved ones. There is no restriction on the number of lights that you want to deploy because of zero running cost. A well lit up backyard or patio area can be an incentive to introduce outdoor furniture and a fire pit to plan for outdoor get-together events. Driveway lights, on the other hand are used to light up the driveway right from the entrance door to the parking space. This helps safely guide vehicles especially after dark. You can go for flush mounted driveway lights that are laid along with the concrete surface and can even be driven upon without causing damage to the vehicle or the lighting unit.

Solar lights are undoubtedly a cost-effective and environmental friendly approach to your outdoor lighting needs. Get it now.

The black chandelier is a bit of an oddball in the realm of chandelier lighting. Especially a black crystal chandelier could be considered weird – is it not the point of crystal chandeliers to reflect and refract light as vividly as possible? Isn’t it a bit counter-constructive to select black glass for this task?

Yes and no. While it may be true that a black crystal chandelier is not exactly transparent, it still does reflect the light quite well. Moreover, it does something which other chandeliers don’t. It is difficult to explain it to someone who has never seen it, but it is an effect not dissimilar to that of light shining on a perfectly polished black piano. The light is reflected and absorbed at the same time – not that that makes much sense. But where a piano has many plane surfaces – plane enough that they make decent mirrors – something like a black Murano chandelier does not. Here, the effect is much more profound, turning the chandelier into some beautifully strange and alien object of light and darkness at the same time.

Of course, it does not have to be a crystal chandelier. A black wrought iron chandelier could be what you were looking for – in fact, this type of chandelier is almost always black. This is simply the traditional look for wrought iron chandeliers, and usually also the look most people want from these types. Wrought iron is not glossy in any way – quite the opposite in fact. With this type of lighting, what you get is a much simpler form of light, without all the reflections and refractions of crystal. But wrought iron was always the solution for the more price-conscious in the old days, it makes sense that the light should be slightly less spectacular. Instead, you get lighting that helps you achieve that specific rustic atmosphere and traditional look. A black crystal chandelier would look quite out of place in a log cabin, don’t you agree?

What is a good setting for black crystal chandeliers then? Well, if you are drawn to all things Gothic, and strive for that look in your home, then hanging one of these babies from the ceiling could be the final touch. They are not the cheapest way of lighting up a room, but then nothing else can really touch them at what they do. Certainly one of the more interesting looks for chandeliers.

A pink chandelier is just the thing for a little girl's room - but you can use it in the living room too - getting curious? Continue reading →

I know – the mere thought of a pink chandelier gives most people a headache and thoughts of little girl’s bedrooms that are just too much. But give it a second thought – how would something like a crystal chandelier with pink crystals really look in your living room? Don’t hot pink – think pink pastel. I think it could work very nicely in a lot of settings! In my opinion, anything can be done in home decorating – as long as it’s not overdone.

So how could you use a pink chandelier? What I would do, is use it to lighten up the interior. I would not put it in an already complete white or light pastel interior – instead, I would gladly put it up in a room with dark and heavy furniture, but with white walls and ceiling. Generally, I prefer colorful objects against a white or neutral background and white/neutral objects if the background (walls) are colored. But of course this is just what I personally tend to like, and you could just as well go in the completely opposite direction. How about having your pink chandelier in a multicolored room, with a floral theme for instance?

Speaking of floral and pink – if you want chandeliers that pull these two words together in one package, you should really have a look at an Italian chandelier some time. Specifically, the world-famous Murano chandelier would be worth your time, as it is known for heavy use of floral inspirations in its all-glass design. You can get these venetian wonders in all kinds of colors – including pink – and you may have them in a single color or even multi-colored. This means that you can have a chandelier with green glass stems and pink glass petals, if you so desire. Now I’ve got you thinking, haven’t I?

Let us not forget the little girls either. Kids chandeliers are of course available in pink and can be quite spectacular – even if they are not thousand-dollar items handmade in Italy. Chandelier lights have that special glamor and sparkle that especially little girls love – and if that is what the little princess wants, well then – buy it as pink as you can!
